Washington Rallying the Troops at Monmouth

Dublin Core

Title

Washington Rallying the Troops at Monmouth

Description

The Battle of Monmouth occurred on June 28, 1778. Washington's troops stood their ground against Redcoats under the guidance of Lieutenant General Sir Henry Clinton.

In the end, there was no clear victor, but it proved the growth of the Continental Army from its early days as unorganized militias to its more regimented leadership under General George Washington.

The painting was done by Emmanuel Gottlieb Leutze in 1853 and is now on display on the south wall of the Roger W. Heyns Reading Room at the Doe Library at Berkeley University.
