J. Frank Young to Henrietta Morriss, September 24, 1927.

Sunday Eve.

Sept. 24

Dear Henrietta,

I am writing this after I have read and studied or at least six consecutive hours.  My eyes are heavy.  Still I just had to be in communication with you in some manner.

I worked until six-thirty Sat. and was very tired.  A letter from you would have been very encouraging.

To-day I spent in reading and studying- it was shameful, too, in one sense because it was such a beautiful day.  However I wanted to get some studying done in order that I might see [page 2] you next week without sacrificing my work.  I should have said next week and next week-end, because I am planning on seeing you then.

My friend Menchen has a habit of referring a book called "Mr. Teague" by Frank Norris.  His doing so brought forth a demand for a new edition.  Doug bought the book, I borrowed it and am now reading it.  When you get the time you should read it.  It is as different in one way as "funny" is in another. However, it was evident from a reading that the author was young.  Some of his expressions are infantile. [Page 3 first line cut off].

My pilgrimage to the bookshops.  I bought a second hand copy of H. Spencer's "Justice", a book I have wanted for some time.  I also bought another book by F. Norris, "Moran of Lady Letty" as well as Father Pyne's "The Mind".

I intend of course to see you Wed. evening at 7:15.  This depends upon your wishes.  If that movie is up by your place before or after this I can easily change he date on hearing from you. However if I do not hear otherwise from you, I will be up on Wed. evening. [Page 4

I am somewhat ashamed of these last few letters I have written you.  Properly so-called, they are not letters but notes.  I hereby vow that your next will be a letter.

Physically the first week of commuting was very tiring.  Morally the discipline of study is whipping me into shape.  I was sure it would.

   Until Wed. Good-bye.

I am,

              Your,

               Frank.
