Addams Statement on Illinois State Senate Bill 233, March 8, 1911<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jane Addams<\/a> held a speech in efforts to oppose the exclusion of child actors from child labor laws on March 8, 1911. She testified before the State Senate committee whom considered the bill. Addams states in this speech that those whom support the exclusion also state to the committee that children spend only a half an hour on stage and are home in bed by 9:30pm the latest. Addams stated that this was false, \u201c\u2026We find that they stay up until all hours, that they do not go to school next morning, that they use foul dressing rooms\u2026 and that there are many objections to children on these smaller stages.\u201d<\/p>\n
