Theodore Havemeyer was a successful businessman born in 1839. He ran the Havemeyer families sugar refinery. Eventually he partnered with his brother Henry O. Havemeyer ad they built one of the most modern sugar refineries in the world, capable of refining over 3 million pounds of sugar in a day. Later he would purchase most of the property that Ramapo College now stands on and build the Mountainside Farm. Mountainside Farm was largely a cattle farm with several cows winning prizes and the yearly milk yield being 6,450 pounds on average. He later built the Havemeyer Mansion on the property that would become the presidents mansion.
